Miu Miu FW 09/10 Collection: Mood Board and the Theme

Following on from the trends SS/09 (above) and developing the colour palette of AW 08/09, as well as taking inspiration from previous Miu Miu collections, I have created a moodboard that demonstrates the direction of colour, theme and patterns of Miu Miu's new FW 09/10 collection.

The dominant hue is purple which gives an overall calm feel to the palette. Warmth is added with the use of oranges, reds and pinks. Cubism plays a vital role in the theme, influencing the patterns and shapes for this collection, with geometric and fragmented shapes. There is a natural feel to the collection, however, due to the harsh angles of the cubic shapes, it has an unnatural edge

The theme:
The theme is based on the concept of Schizophrenia as if the collection has a split personality. The two key elements of the collection are a contrast between the natural and the unnatural. A combination of warm and cool colour palettes will be included, such as oranges and reds, conrtasting with pinks and purples. There will also be a contrast in silhoutte - a mix of sharp, fitted cuts, inspired by Cubism, mixed with soft curves, inspired by nature.
A lot of the inspiration came from the AW08 WGSN trends , 'disturbed' and 'flourish', where disturbed explores schziphrenia in terms of contrasting colour palettes. Flourish, on the other hand, draws colours from nature, such as birds feathers and trees.
Key points:

  • Juxtoposition of natural with unnatual: Cubic shapes v soft feathers and leaves.

  • Main colours: Purple, Pink, Orange and Black

  • Cubism inspired pattern: Geometric shapes - circles, squares and triangles
